20 to Watch: Women to Watch in HVAC contest winners annouced!

Engineered Systems magazine proudly announces its inaugural 20 women to watch in the HVAC industry. See the full story below:

The Women in ASHRAE Committee hosted their spring 2018 panel discussion and networking evening on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at GHT Limited in Arlington, VA. The focus of the discussion was cultivating leadership and retaining women in the engineering and construction workforce. The panel was comprised of Laura Morder, Katherine Hammack, and Jessica Baker, all leaders in their respective companies, pictured below. The event was attended by nearly forty individuals from the Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland area.

During the event, it was announced that the Women in ASHRAE group will be voted in as an offical committee within ASHRAE Society at this summer's ASHRAE Annual Meeting in Houston, Texas. This vote recognizes the importance of WiA alongside standing committees like Membership, Research Promotion, Student Activities, and YEA and it puts forth a challenge for all ASHRAE Chapters to start the initiative in their communities. The National Capital Chapter is proud to have been at the forefront of this movement and is offering assistance and resources to other chapters in setting up WiA committees. The Women in ASHRAE Committee hosted a fall Speed Networking event on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Mad Fox Brewery in Falls Church, Virginia. Participants were engaged in a thirty minute networking session where they built mentoring relationships, expanded their local networks and enjoyed house brews together.

Special thank you to the event sponsor, HAVTECH, for providing funding for beverages and appetizers!

Committee Update:

The National Capital Chapter saw an increase in membership during 2016 of 43 members, 22 (51%) of those new members being women. Recognizing this success, the National Capital Chapter presented a motion at the annual CRC meeting in August 2016 asking ASHRAE to develop and maintain WiA as a formal committee, rather than an affinity group. This motion passed at the regional level and has moved forward to Society. Please show your support at future meetings and events!

WiA NCC will be hosting three networking events during the 2016-2017 ASHRAE Society year. Details to follow for upcoming events in October 2016, January 2017, and April 2017. If you are interested in providing sponsorship for a future WiA event, please contact Laura Morder or Janay Griego at [email protected] . All event sponsors receive advertising opportunities within the Capitalaire Newletter, at chapter meetings and at WiA functions.
