Integrated Design Process: How Projects Can Benefit from Early Contractor Involvement
Mike Morder - Senior Design Engineer - Southland Industries
Mike Morder has over 10 years of industry experience in manufacturing, hospital, museums, hospitality, and confidential government projects. He has mechanical and plumbing engineering design experience from schematic through construction on multiple projects. Mr. Morder is responsible for the management of the mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection designs and field shop drawing creation/coordination with multiple trades.
His in-depth knowledge of construction sequencing, requirements, spatial allocation, and coordinating with outside consultants/contractors is key to any job and he has significant Integrated Project Delivery and Lean construction experience. Mike has a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering – Mechanical from Penn State University.
Donnie Lawrence - Project Constructablity Lead - Southland Industries - Journeyman Steamfitter local 602
As Project Constructability Lead, Donald Lawrence has extensive experience in federal, university, healthcare, and research facilities. His specific expertise focuses on managing assigned manpower and position resources to complete scheduled work, managing RFIs and change orders to distribute all information to the team, working with engineers and project managers on equipment selection, and schedules, and providing prefabrication opportunities during design and coordination. With over 21 years of experience, Donald has worked on complex and confidential projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Reginald M Truxon, AIA, NOMA - Associate, Regional Design Management Leader - Gensler
Reginald M Truxon, AIA, NOMA is an Associate at Gensler and is the President of DC NOMA . Reggie is a Regional Race and Diversity Co-Leader at Gensler, where he organizes projects and people to make a lasting positive impact on the state of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry. A champion for attracting the best talent possible to support the future of architecture, he works to drive alignment through his leadership, helping the firm partner with NOMA on its mission to educate, elevate, and empower minority architects. Reggie is also helped establish a resource group for Black employees at Gensler.
Reggie also serves as Gensler’s Southeast Region Design Management Leader, providing guidance for the firm’s design managers to strengthen the foundation of its business. A leader in large scale, multi-family projects, he has the keen ability to simultaneously manage complex projects, while driving both alignment and client satisfaction by maintain a quality design product. He believes that to make bold design visions attainable, one must place emphasis on what is under the hood — the firm’s finances, technical prowess, and the health of its teams.
Reggie is a graduate of Hampton University. He is a classically trained musician and the drummer for Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, a role he channels in his architectural work, becoming the steady heartbeat of his teams.
